Overview:
The main authority in Welsh rugby, the Welsh
Rugby Union (WRU) governs the development of coaches,
referees, and players of all ages for men and
women. WRU provides a mechanism which allows for
“equitable games and the playing of all
squad members.” WRU likewise encourages
coaches and parents emphasize “development”
rather than “winning”, as the main
purpose for playing rugby.
It is recognized by the International Rugby Board,
and oversees the Welsh national team, leagues,
and cups. WRU also governs regional teams participating
in the Celtic League, European Rugby, and European
Rugby Shield competitions.
